It has come to our attention that certain coaching centers are misusing names similar to ours, such as Vajirao or Bajirao, in an attempt to mislead and attract students/parents. Please be informed that we have no association with these fake institutes and legal proceedings have already been initiated against them before the Hon'ble Delhi High Court. We urge students and parents to stay vigilant and let us know in case they are approached by such fake institutes.

AI in India’s Internal Security: Predictive Policing & Cyber Intelligence Use

By Kalpana Sharma

The Ministry of Home Affairs is rapidly broadening the deployment of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in India internal security areas through predictive policing and advanced cyber intelligence, enhancing crime prevention, threat detection and national safety. Artificial Intelligence is being widely integrated into the justice system, especially by law enforcement agencies for data analysis, crime detection, surveillance and predictive policing.

AI in Internal Security

India is rapidly integrating Artificial Intelligence into its internal security framework to enhance predictive policing and cyber intelligence. Some recent initiatives are AI-driven CCTNS 2.0 for crime mapping, Mule Hunter for financial fraud and AI-enabled surveillance to process vast data which enables law enforcement to identify patterns, detect threats and manage resources. Therefore, AI is rapidly transforming internal security frameworks in the country.

What is Artificial Intelligence (AI)?

Artificial Intelligence is a branch of computer science that offers the capabilities of human intelligence within machines. Artificial Intelligence allows them to learn, analyze, solve problems and make decisions. AI systems analyze data to recognize patterns and act autonomously to achieve specific goals which often surpass human speed and accuracy in specialized tasks.

Why is Artificial Intelligence AI needed in Internal Security?

Artificial Intelligence is transforming internal security frameworks in India. Gradually, AI is being included into internal security systems to enhance surveillance, detecting crime and fostering decision making capabilities. Artificial Intelligence is very helpful in identifying patterns in crimes, enabling predictable policing, enhancing cybercrime detection through data analytics and improves coordination among law enforcement agencies.

Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Predictive Policing and Surveillance Tools

Artificial Intelligence in predictive policing and surveillance helps with crime mapping, behavioural analysis and developing an organised crime network database. Let’s take a look at the role of artificial intelligence in predictive policing and surveillance tools:-

1. Crime Mapping

AI models analyze historical crime data via CCTNS 2.0 to predict potential hotspots and optimize police resource deployment. CCTNS 2.0 is an upcoming AI powered upgrade to existing Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and Systems.

2. Surveillance

AI-enabled CCTV systems and drones are used for crowd control, traffic management and behavioural analysis to detect suspicious activity. It allows instant analysis and target identification in critical situations.

3. Organized Crime Database

Recently an AI-powered national level Organized Crime Network Database has been introduced that functions like a chatbot to immediately retrieve dossiers, fingerprints and voice matches of suspects.

Role of Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Intelligence and Cybercrime Mitigation

India is heavily integrating Artificial Intelligence into its internal security framework to combat serious cybercrimes. Through dark web monitoring, mule hunter and social media analysis, India aims to strengthen its cyber intelligence systems. Let’s take a look at the role of artificial intelligence in cyber intelligence and cybercrime mitigation:-

1. Dark Web Monitoring

Many agencies use AI tools to track illegal activities, phishing campaigns and fraud networks on the dark web. Also, AI algorithms are utilised to scan large amounts of unstructured data on the dark web for automated threat detection.

2. Mule Hunter

Mule Hunter is developed with RBI Innovation Hub. This tool uses Artificial Intelligence to identify and track bank accounts used in financial fraud. It is capable of combatting digital financial fraud by identifying suspicious patterns.

3. Social Media Analysis

Security forces such as the CRPF use AI for sentiment analysis and to track potential threats on social media platforms. It has the capability to detect early signs of civil unrest, extremist propaganda and suspicious activities between users and social media platforms.

Platforms and Technologies for Artificial Intelligence in Predictive Policing

AI in predictive policing utilizes various tools such as Fraud Reporting and Management System, the national IED Data Management Software and Surakshini to boost internal security practices. Let’s take a look at the platforms and technologies for artificial intelligence in predictive policing:-

1. Fraud Reporting and Management System

The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre uses a Fraud Reporting and Management System to analyze fraud data and detect online harmful content. It includes AI-driven anomaly detection, continuous monitoring and secure, layered authentication protocols.

2. National IED Data Management Software (NIDMS)

The National IED Data Management Software utilises AI for image and object detection to analyze bomb-related data. This system aims to strengthen investigations into terrorist activities by providing actionable intelligence on bomb explosions.

3. Surakshini

Surakshini is developed by the Ministry of Home Affairs. It aims to detect and prevent the re-upload of child sexual abuse material and non-consensual intimate imagery. It also detects and prevents the uploading spread of harmful content on digital platforms. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) supports AI platforms by enabling international data-sharing, cybersecurity cooperation, and technological partnerships, strengthening predictive policing capabilities through global intelligence exchange and innovation collaboration.

Conclusion

Artificial Intelligence is transforming internal security frameworks in the country. Artificial Intelligence is very helpful in identifying patterns in crimes, enables predictable policing, fosters cybercrime detection through data analytics and prevents terrorism through early detection. Some platforms and technologies used for these purposes are Surakshini which helps in prevention of content related to child sexual abuse, NIDMS which analyses bomb related data to prevent terrorism and Fraud Reporting & Management System.
