Government bans 43 more mobile apps citing threat to security.
The Centre on Tuesday blocked 43 more mobile apps, including major Chinese ones such as AliSuppliers, Aliexpress etc. to protect the interests of citizens, sovereignty and integrity of India.
Earlier on 29th June, 2020 the Government of India had blocked access to 59 mobile apps and on 2nd September, 2020 118 more apps were banned.
What are the reasons to ban these apps?
According to government “This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order,”
The Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre, Ministry of Home Affairs has also sent an exhaustive recommendation for blocking these malicious apps.
Under which act, the apps are banned?
The banning order of app was issued under section 69A of the Information Technology Act, 2000 that should be read with the relevant provisions of the Information Technology (Procedure and Safeguards for Blocking of Access of Information by Public) Rules 2009.
